US kills Osama bin Laden decade after 9/11 attacks
WASHINGTON – Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism and architect of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was killed in a firefight with elite American forces Monday, then quickly buried at sea in a stunning finale to a furtive decade on the run.
Long believed to be hiding in caves, bin Laden was tracked down in a costly, custom-built hideout not far from a Pakistani military academy. The stunning news of his death prompted relief and euphoria outside the White House and around the globe, yet also fears of terrorist reprisals against the United States and its allies.
"Justice has been done," President Barack Obama said in a dramatic announcement at the White House.
Americans reacting to Osama's death
Bin Laden's death marks a psychological triumph in a long struggle that began well before the Sept. 11 attacks. Al-Qaida was also blamed for the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa that killed 231 people and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed 17 American sailors in Yemen, as well as countless other plots, some successful and some foiled.
In all, nearly 3,000 were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks nearly 10 years ago, the worst terror assault on American soil.

LAKERS VS. THUNDER GAME PREVIEW
Just last week the Los Angeles Lakers were in good position to get the Western Conference's top seed.
Now there's no guarantee the two-time defending champs will finish in the top three.
The slumping Lakers look to avoid losing five straight games for the first time in four years Sunday night when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder, one of two teams with faint hopes of surpassing Los Angeles in the standings.
The Lakers (55-24) pulled within 1 1/2 games of West-leading San Antonio on April 1, but haven't won since, allowing the Spurs to clinch the conference's top seed.

Foods That Look Like Body Parts They're Good For
Every child has heard the healthy-eating saying "You are what you eat." But there may be a closer resemblance between good-for-you grub and your body than you thought
1. Carrot: Eye
Munching on carrots will actually promote healthy eyes. Carrots are filled with vitamins and antioxidants, like beta-carotene, that decrease the chance of macular degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in older people.
2. Walnut: Brain
The folds and wrinkles of a walnut bring to mind another human organ: the brain. The shape of the nut even approximates the body part, looking like it has left and right hemispheres. And it's no surprise walnuts are nicknamed "brain food"— they have a very high content of omega-3 fatty acids, which help support brain function.
3. Celery: Bone
Long, lean stalks of celery look just like bones—and they're good for them, too. Celery is a great source of silicon, which is part of the molecular structure that gives bones their strength.

World Forestry Day Observed
March 21st was World Forest Day - but if you didn't go out and hug a tree, you can still go and do so - because it's also international year of the forests.
In Belize - where 36% of our territory is under protection, the day was commemorated at the Louisiana Palmar Nature Park in Orange Walk Town where Chief Forestry Officer Wilbur Sabido outlined the theme for the year's observance:
Wilbur Sabido, Chief Forestry Officer
"Nationally, our national theme for this international year of forest is "Forest for People". What we've done is really to try and commemorate both events in one and so today we gather here to plant our national tree."
Hon. Gaspar Vega, Minister of Natural Resources
"Our ministry of natural resources and the environment felt it practical to have the greening take place in our own back yard. But this is also the launch of our re-forestation initiative in the fresh water creek forest reserve. A commitment I made when the ministry issued medium term licenses in the reserve. The licensees will work with the forest department to replant log and hurricane impacted areas in the reserve."
The Forestry Department plans to do tours, competitions and other events to mark the year of forests.

It's Called Mindset
It's called Mindset
As I was passing by the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg.
No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not. I saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.
"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.
"I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were.
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?
Wise saying, “Your attempt may fail, but never fail to make an attempt.”

Japan hit by huge earthquake and tsunami
Japan was struck by its strongest earthquake on record, an 8.9-magnitude temblor that shook buildings across Tokyo and unleashed a seven-meter-high tsunami that killed hundreds and engulfed towns on the northern coast.
The estimated death toll from Japan's disasters climbed past 10,000 Sunday as authorities raced to combat the threat of multiple nuclear reactor meltdowns and hundreds of thousands of people struggled to find food and water. The prime minister said it was the nation's worst crisis since World War II.
The death toll surged because of a report from Miyagi, one of the three hardest hit states. The police chief told disaster relief officials more than 10,000 people were killed, police spokesman Go Sugawara told The Associated Press. That was an estimate — only 400 people have been confirmed dead in Miyagi, which has a population of 2.3 million.
According to officials, more than 1,800 people were confirmed dead — including 200 people whose bodies were found Sunday along the coast — and more than 1,400 were missing in Friday's disasters. Another 1,900 were injured.
For Japan, one of the world's leading economies with ultramodern infrastructure, the disasters plunged ordinary life into nearly unimaginable deprivation.
Hundreds of thousands of hungry survivors huddled in darkened emergency centers that were cut off from rescuers, aid and electricity. At least 1.4 million households had gone without water since the quake struck and some 1.9 million households were without electricity.
While the government doubled the number of soldiers deployed in the aid effort to 100,000 and sent 120,000 blankets, 120,000 bottles of water and 29,000 gallons (110,000 liters) of gasoline plus food to the affected areas, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said electricity would take days to restore. In the meantime, he said, electricity would be rationed with rolling blackouts to several cities, including Tokyo.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is an upcoming 2011 3D fantasy action-adventure film. It is the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Sam Claflin, Stephen Graham, Gemma Ward and Richard Griffiths.
